Couples Therapy
Whether you and your partner have lost the “spark,” are stuck having the same fight over and over again, or just looking at your partner and wondering, “Is this all there is?” you’re probably ready for a change in your relationship.
There’s no getting around it: relationships are hard work. Those butterfly-in-the-stomach feelings you had at the beginning have long subsided. And you may be feeling like you’re in a rut with no way out.
When we work together, I listen—and I help you and your partner hear each other again (or maybe even for the first time).
I can help you both get clarity on why your relationship has changed and how to get it back on track. And I can teach you strategies to reduce conflict and improve communication so you can get back to those warm, hopeful feelings you had when you said, “I do.”
Issues I can help with in couples therapy
Some people feel that couples therapy should only be used as a last ditch resort but nothing could be farther from the truth. The sooner you address an issue in your relationship, the easier it is to fix it.
Infidelity/Affair recovery
Poor communication
Financial issues
Parenting challenges
Sexual difficulties/sexless marriage
Intimacy
Jealousy
Work/life balance
Issues with extended family members
If you’re ready to restore affection, regain respect, increase intimacy, or rebuild trust, I’m here for you.
How therapy can help couples
I have two complementary styles of working with couples.
When conflicts escalate &
emotions are heated
I use a psychodynamic approach to help you understand the dynamics that lead to conflict, avoidance, By learning about patterns, you’ll be better able to prevent misunderstanding.
When conflict is lower & things are running more smoothly
I use cognitive behavioral strategies to de-escalate the crisis and help both parties to understand their partner’s perspective.
